Harley-Davidson’s first electric pedal-assist bicycles are light, fast, and easy for anyone to ride. Designed to shine in urban environments, this all-new line of eBicycles is just one more example of how Harley-Davidson’s More Roads initiative is actively working to inspire a new generation of two-wheeled riders around the world.
What’s an eBicycle?
Think of a pedal-assist electric bicycle as an “electric assisted” bicycle. It has pedals that are used to propel it forward just like a standard bicycle but is also equipped with an electric motor and rechargeable battery to supplement the physical power of the rider.
Who Rides eBicycles?
eBicycle customers in Western Europe and North America span age and experience categories. Perfect for “less sweat” transportation cycling, an eBicycle makes hills less of an obstacle, distances more manageable, and heavy cargo nearly a non-issue. eBicycles are fun recreation vehicles, allowing riders to explore road and trails in new ways than previously possible. An eBicycle can make cycling accessible to riders who might not otherwise ride a bicycle at all.
The eBicycle Market
Interest in eBicycles has exploded recently as lithium-ion battery and motor technology has advanced, making eBicycles more practical for both recreation and urban commuting. In some Western European cities where bike commuting is popular and supported by extensive bike lanes and other infrastructure, eBicycle sales are now 20 to 50 percent of the total bicycle market.

"Harley-Davidson hasn’t been shy when it comes to talking about its ambitious electric bicycle goals. In fact, Harley-Davidson electric bicycles are a big part of the More Roads to Harley Davidson plan.
But what H-D hasn’t done is show off its electric bicycles in public. Instead, they’ve only shown us renderings and pictures. Until today that is, when Harley-Davidson included the first three H-D electric bicycle prototypes in its sprawling display at the EICMA 2019 Milan Motorcycle Show.
The three electric bicycles were front and center at the vast H-D booth, though they were surrounded by a glass barrier to keep people like me from copping a feel.
Even so, we’re able to glean a lot of info from the prototypes on display."
