LOCAL RIDES: No Whining While Riding in Wine Country

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Nov 30, 2018 11:00:00 AM

It's time to explore the world-renowned wine region of the Sonoma and Napa valleys, where the scenery is always spectacular as each season changes the landscape. There are plenty of opportunities for wine tasting and a picnic. The restaurants here are first rate as big-city culture abounds in this area despite its rustic feel.

No Whining in the Country

Start:  Sonoma Plaza, SR-12 / Broadway @ SR-12 / W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA
South SR-12 / Broadway > Fremont Dr. > SR-121 12.1
Left SR-29 / SR-121 > St. Helena > SR-128 (in Napa) 29.3
Left Petrified Forest Rd. > Calistoga Rd. (in Calistoga) 11.8
Left SR-12 / Sonoma Hwy. > W. Napa (in Santa Rosa) 17.5
Finish SR-12 / W. Napa St. @ SR-12 / Broadway, Sonoma, CA

Suggested Stops: If you prefer cars over Cabs (Cabernet, that is), don't miss the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. It features NASCAR, AMA and seasonal Wednesday night drag races, open to anyone with a driver's license and their own set of wheels. After racing around, relax in a volcanic ash mud bath at Indian Springs in Calistoga. Built in 1860, it's the oldest continuously operating spa in the state.

Suggested Restaurants:

The Saloon at Jack London Lodge - Where locals share London's history
13740 Arnold Dr., Glen Ellen, CA
707-93-8510

Oakville Grocery - Picnicking Napa style
7856 St. Helena Hwy., Oakville, CA
800-973-6324
