LOCAL RIDES: Payback on the Silverado Trail

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Mar 18, 2020 10:00:00 AM

This loop takes you along the beautiful Silverado Trail, a quiet road that parallels Route 29, the busier traffic artery through the Napa Valley. Catch a glimpse of the nation's foremost wine region as it was decades ago. As the roadway dips and curves along the foothills, it offers gorgeous views of vineyards and mountains.

Suggested Stops: Head on over to Taylor's Refresher in St. Helena, a drive-in with a California twist. Classic burgers and shakes share the menu with gourmet goodies, including an ahi tuna burger with Asian slaw and wine by the glass. Satisfy your sweet tooth at the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, where you can take a tour and see how thirty tons of jellybeans are made every weekday.

Don't know what to do with that spare hubcap you've been hauling around? You can add yours to the collection of over 5,000 displayed at Litto's Hubcap Ranch in Pope Valley. For over thirty years until he died at age 93, Litto Damonte, the proclaimed "Pope Valley Hubcap King," collected thousands of hubcaps, continuing his grandfather's dream of making a hubcap heaven. It's now California Historical Landmark No. 939. Just look out for the glittering discs shining in the sun - and wear your shades.
