A Complete Beginner's Guide to Motorcycle Insurance

Posted by Harley-Davidson Insurance on Jun 20, 2020 10:00:00 AM

What is motorcycle insurance?

Your motorcycle isn't just a mode of transportation; it's an expression of who you are. Anyone who's been through a painful breakup knows how hard it is to lose expression of who you are. And while there's no breakup insurance, there is Motorcycle insurance. That way, if something happens to your baby, you may not have to lose it 100%.

How Is Your Motorcycle Insurance Calculated?

Anyone who has a history of riding safely is likely to get a good deal on their motorcycle insurance. A safe driving record will have a positive impact on your insurance rates. There are other factors as well, like age and gender.

Credit Application: Hard Inquiry or Soft Inquiry

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Jan 2, 2018 8:00:00 AM

Hold onto your hats this should go pretty quick! We get this question a lot here. “When you submit a credit app is it a hard or a soft inquiry?” The short answer is yes. Now that you mention it the long answer is also yes.

Let’s talk real quick about why it is a hard inquiry and why it happens when you are trying to buy a Harley-Davidson. A hard inquiry or hard pull happens when a bank or lending institution, with your permission, pulls your credit to establish the risk (Financing a Luxury vs a Necessity) in giving you a loan. You see that your permission is underlined there? That’s because you should know every time a hard pull happens. You should expect it and plan on it.

Saving Yourself From One Bad Day with An Extended Service Plan

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Dec 29, 2017 6:00:00 PM

Let me ask, how long do you think you will own your next Harley-Davidson motorcycle? Are you like most riders who will be trading it in for the next best thing in 3-4 years? Or will you try and keep it forever?

The reason I ask is because we need to talk about one bad day. One bad day is a day of mechanical breakdown including parts and labor costs, maybe even a tow to the nearest dealership. If you are out of town then you'll need a hotel room for the night, lunch, dinner and then breakfast. And what if the repairs take a few days, then we're talking about a rental vehicle to get around or get home. The Harley-Davidson Extended Service Plan will cover all of those expenses. (What Exactly Is the Extended Service Plan?)

What Will My Monthly Payment Be?

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Dec 26, 2017 4:00:00 PM

What will my monthly payment be? This is one of the more interesting question we get on almost a daily basis. The Harley-Davidson Motor Company has a payment calculator on their website and a lot of people will use it to try and get an idea of what their payments might be. On the surface this seems like a great idea, right? I know that if I was purchasing something I would want to know what it might cost me, especially if I am just starting out and not ready to run my credit yet. Here’s the thing. H-D has to make this calculator work the best they can for all 50 states. Not all states have sales tax (which in the state of California at the time of this writing was 7.25%). Not all cities and counties tack on their own sales tax (ahem. 10% in San Leandro). Not all states have License fees. And the interest rate they start you at is one of the best that is available. For more on that check out (Financing a Luxury vs a Necessity).
