Walk Through the 2018 Road Glide Special

Posted by Oakland H-D Contributor on Sep 1, 2017 3:00:00 PM

The Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special is easily one of the most popular motorcycles in the San Francisco Bay Area. And it's easily to tell why. With the power of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine and the fixed front fairing, this motorcycle has clean lines and a lot of power. 2018 introduced a few new features for the Road Glide Special and we're here to walk you through a few of them.

The most obvious difference is the blacked out Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. When talking to many customers interested in the new Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine they were either going for a chromed-out polished look or they were going for the blacked-out more sinister look. For those customers that fell in the latter category, they typically spent a lot of time and money taking off little bits and pieces here and there to have them powder coated. Scared to mess with performance and warranty, many did not touch the motor components. With the 2018 Road Glide Special, these blacked-out enthusiasts can now achieve a fully blacked out look straight from the factory.

Stretched saddlebags and FLHX rear fascia means that the bottom edge of the bags are closer to the ground and the gap between teh bags and the fender is filled which  creates a slammed profile.

A painted inner fairing gives a different look compared to the standard Road Glide model and adds to the hot rod bagger style.

Blacked-out finishes throughout have been purposefully selected to combine and create a sinister custom look:

  • Fronk forks and covers
  • Nacelle and headlight trim ring
  • Footboards and pegs
  • Horn cover
  • Primary cover
  • Rear light bar
  • Saddlebag rails
  • Shifter arms
  • Tank console and insert
  • Handlebar
  • Front turn signals
  • Mufflers and exhaust shields

Specific to the 2018 Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special is a new tank medallion with a more modern-looking font.

New Black Talon wheels, 19-inch front, 18-inch rear - create a larger than life look. The Dunlop® Harley-Davidson® multi-tread tires offer harder compounds at the center and softer compounds on the sides which makes this bike agile on every curvy stretch of road.

Classic H-D® Custom Hot Rod Bagger style is prevalent in the current mtoorcycle culture. Harley-Davidson is now offering the modern touring features - power, suspension, navigation, sound system, etc - in a boldly styled on-trend bagger.
